As a Pulitzer Prize winning expert on global health and disease prevention, Laurie Garrett has studied countless cases and written numerous books on these issues.
Garrett is the only person to have received the Pulitzer, Peabody, and Polk prizes in journalism. In terms of education, she holds an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz in biology and a Ph.D. in Bacteriology and Immunology from the University of California. It is here she began her first foray into journalism, working for the KPFA radio as a science news reporter. Currently, she is a Senior Fellow of the Global Health Program at the Council on Foreign Relations.
Garrett has written several books. These include ‘The Coming Plague: Newly Emerging Diseases in a World Out of Balance” and “Betrayal of Trust: The Collapse of Global Public Health.” In these books and her presentations, Garrett examines huge, daunting issues in health with the fine-comb mind of an academic and the articulation of world-class journalist.
